1. Psychological/epistemological approach-
The concept I am interested in chapter 1 is psychological approach of communication, “…the relationship of communication and thought, trying to understand in a “scientific” way how people could influence one another through speech”(p.10). I always believe communication involves many aspects of psychology. There could be several of reasons for us to communicate with each other, to deliver message, sharing thoughts and even persuade. I like how the textbook explain that psychological approach is focus on human communication, “…how human action could be influenced by speech, and they wanted to describe the thought processes of receivers listening to persuasive messages” (p.10). We often use communication to persuade people and to do that; we have to understand the basic of psychology. Learn how to deliver a message is more effective, and how message can influence one another are some of the examples I can think of psychological approach in communication. If we can combine the theories of communication and the theories of psychology then we probably can reach a better level of effective communication.
I agree that communication has a lot to do with psychology. There are many forms of communication, like verbal, non-verbal, and etc that need to be understood and taken into account. I especially agree with the part of your blog that states that we often need to persuade people and for that, an awareness of psychological aspects comes in handy. In order to be able to successfully persuade people and figure out what is needed in certain situations an understanding and awareness of human nature, cause and effect, and meaning of actions can be extremely helpful. Good job on your post, I enjoyed reading it.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was very interesting what Sogo-105 wrote about the “psychological approach of communication”, because when you begin to think about how communication and psychology work hand at hand, it all makes a great amount of sense. The reason it makes sense is because we all humans interact through communication because that’s how we learn from each other, and that’s how we influence each other. For example when we are children are parents teach us how to act proper and right from wrong. They tell us that if we clean are room and do chores around the house we will get a reward for it. By telling us that they are able to influence us and cause to do what they ask because they told us and the reward we get for doing it. That’s just one of the many ways communication influences us.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that the relationship between communication and thought is very interesting. Everyone is taught that in order to send a message you must communicate it in some way. Because of this you are right you are able to manipulate your message and persuade others by your speech and manner of communication. One message can be passed down through dozens of people and once it gets to that last person it will not be the same in which it originated. This is because each person each person has there own unique way in registering information and communicating the information they have stored. Our thought process can be different from our neighbors, even though we are using the same tools to store it, the pyscholigcal aspect contributes to the way it is stored and communicated. I have always enjoyed pyschology because it is interesting to learn what affects ones perception for anothers.
